Welcome Home Initiative- History

The Welcome Home Initiative

In 2008, clergyman and combat veteran, the Rev. Nigel Mumford, spearheaded a new outreach program then known as the Welcome Home Initiative© (WHI). Dedicated to providing military veterans with targeted, specific ministry and other resources for their spiritual and emotional healing; the WHI is led by Rev. Mumford and WHI Team.

This important ministry has benefited hundreds of veterans and their families since its inception. As of May 2015, we have held twenty (20) Welcome Home retreats with approximately 320 veterans in attendance, not counting spouses. Though retreats were formerly conducted in upstate New York, they are now offered every November in Virginia Beach, VA and in early summer in FL.  The WHI had spun off in Dayton, Ohio and countries, such as, Canada, Australia & England. We anticipate and look forward to opening additional geographic locations in the very near future, to help reach so many more war-zoned veterans.

Participating veterans and their families, however, are not the only people who are blessed by the Lord's gracious love and healing. Every program retreat leaves our WHI ministry team and staff immeasurably blessed as well. Participating veterans are given the necessary resources to overcome wounds, pain, chaos, and destructive thoughts toward themselves and/or others; WHI leadership and staff are filled afresh and anew with Hope.

Fr. Nigel was honored by the United States Pentagon when he was invited to meet, in Washington DC, with US Army Chaplains and other senior military personnel to share with them what he has learned in leading the Welcome Home Initiative. In addition, as a retired UK Marine Commando himself; Nigel has also been privileged to introduce the Welcome Home Program to senior staff of the British Army who are also interested and receptive to the program. We pray for the Lord's blessing, to see this important ministry rapidly grow over the next few years.
